There are many aspects of the publishing world that just baffle the heck out of me. Why more readers don’t leave reviews is a BIG one. As indie publishing grows these independent, hardworking authors write day and night to get their muse’s chatter on page so that it entertains their readers. This doesn’t come easy. It comes with self-doubt, rejection and many, many tears; but yet a published author plows through all of that and finally releases their finished story.
Once this is done, now comes the hard part…how to let the world know. These days everyone watches where their pennies go and word of mouth is better than most mainstream marketing. One of the best ways to let the world know that you enjoyed the book you just finished is to jump onto sites like Amazon and Goodreads and leave a review.
Now this review doesn’t need to be a multiple paragraph summary of all the details of the book, but it is helpful to let fellow readers know how you felt. Was it a story that had you hanging on the edge of your seat? Did you have to go into work a bit late because you just couldn’t put it down until you finished it? These are some of the easiest things to let other readers know that this book is one they need to purchase and read.
So today when you have ten or fifteen minutes, jump online and leave a review or two of your most favorite reads and support that author who spent hours making sure your investment in their story was well worth it.
Note to authors…one of the best ways to get your book noticed is to solicit reviews from some of Amazon’s top reviewers. Here is the link to see the most current list: http://www.amazon.com/review/top-reviewers
