So most of you will know what these are, or have taken part in them for yourself. But for those that may have missed this growing trend I will explain a little more about what they are.
These are normally groups that are set up in order to “grow your page likes” Adding your links to an ever growing list in order to have everyone above and below you come and “like” your page.
Like for Like
There are many people be them authors or others that will come and like your page in exchange for you going and liking theirs. This may be in the form of a group or even in private message once they have “liked” yours.
Ok so in the grand scheme of things, you feel like taking part in these because you “want to get your name out there” or even “increase your likes” and these are great ways of doing that….. or are they? I can say at one time I have indeed taken part in one such “like ladder” but what are the pros and cons? Are you really getting what it was you set out to achieve? As a quick answer yes and no, why you say? Well yes you are getting more “likes” on your page, yes you are getting “your name out there” It makes you feel better when you come to your page and see all of those additional likes, but are they really doing anything for you? NO!!!!! is the answer…….
Now you are all wondering why they are not doing anything for you, well it’s quite simple really. Each of those “likes” is not a real like at all they have done so only to do as you have and increase the numbers on their pages. They are not actively looking at your page, engaging with its content, nor are they sharing anything about you and what your product is. In essence what this is doing is in fact the same as “buying” your likes, and looking at my own data when I trialled this I came up with less than 10% of those likes actually converted into anything that was of any use. Then seeing you in their newsfeed for that short time after they liked the page is great, but as we all know if they have no contact they become just another dormant number added to your likes. The “like for like” works in exactly the same way, yet on a much smaller scale and again you may be able to convert 10% of those into ACTUAL followers of you and your work.
I have told you about the downside to all of this you want to know how you can do what you originally set out to. Well it’s simple and includes going back to basics and yes you got it, this also includes having to build your likes and your fans in a much slower manner. The only way to get genuine likes and fans that actually want to interact and be on your page is NETWORKING, MARKETING, PROMOTING YOUR BRAND (YES YOU ARE YOUR BRAND), BLOG TOURS, REVIEWS, TAKING PART IN GIVEAWAYS AND PARTIES……. OH AND OF COURSE JUST BEING YOU AND TALKING TO THE FANS SO THEY CAN TELL THEIR FRIENDS. The best promotion and way to build a fan base is by word of mouth.
So now you see that some of the things that take up a lot of your time and energy are really not worth the end result. I can only advice on what I do and that is like other pages in your area of expertise, like pages because you are interested in them, like pages because your friends like them because it is a product that you might be interested in, not because its part or a like ladder or a like for like. Because you the same as I have done that and from the time we liked the page we have never gone back.
