First let me congratulate each and every person that has poured their blood, sweat and tears into writing a book. Maybe you have it published or maybe it’s just not quite ready yet. I bet now you are thinking “What’s the point of this?” Well there is a point, just bare with me and I will get to it I promise.
First let’s discuss the fact that you have spent weeks, months or years writing your book. You have paid professionals such as BookRhythm to edit and format your manuscript so your work looks the best it could ever be.
Next, you have gone through the process of formatting and uploading your work, dealing with all of the issues (Well unless you have a friend that could do it for you); yes we know, pulling your hair out is the norm for this process.
Now, you have a book that’s live and launched “CONGRATULATIONS” it’s time to run and tell all your friends about it, shout it from the roof tops and do whatever you can so people know about it right? After all, you want to sell your book to others don’t you?
See you went to all this trouble and did all that you could to get your book available to buy, but you know what “WHO CARES?” There are so many other books out there and they are all fighting for a spot on people’s bookshelves or reading devices. So here’s the issue and it’s rather a big one because at this point you are selling little to no books, your fan base is not increasing and no one knows a thing about what you wrote. Because other than those you manage to shout it to, no one cares nor knows who you are and that you wrote a book. Why and what can you do?
MARKETING!!!!!!!! I can’t scream this loud enough and tell everyone enough. You have gone through all of this and you are not marketing yourself or your product. This is a crazy concept to me, you want people to know about and buy your work, right? It’s an unfortunate thing but you need to PAY for marketing OR spend the hours doing it yourself. No one is going to sell your book for you; no one is going to know about your book unless they are told. In conclusion, I only have one thing to say to every one of you that has written a book.
“Believe in your product, if you don’t believe in it…no one else is going to. Market your book…if you don’t market it & input as much dedication, time and money into it no one is going to know you even exist. If you think any of the Big Names, NYT Best Sellers got where they are without marketing and paying for marketing services, I am afraid you are sadly mistaken.”
Now you say you don’t have any money for marketing…well I can understand that, but there are things to do. Don’t grab that expensive coffee this week. Start using coupons when you shop at the grocery store…anything that you can do to put a small amount of money away each week. In time you will have enough to start marketing; sometimes you just need $20. It can be done and many have to sacrifice, big and small, to see their dreams come true.
